Military Tuition Assistance Refund Policy
Military Tuition Assistance Refunds
Military Tuition Assistance (TA) is a benefit received by a college or university for eligible military student recipients who are active members of a United States military service (Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard). The military student is awarded the TA benefit with the understanding that the student will attend the entire semester. When a military student withdraws, Seton Hill University is required to calculate TA benefit earned and return the unearned portion of funding to the appropriate military service.
Unearned TA funds that are returned to the appropriate military service will become a debt to the student.
Seton Hill University will calculate the amount of unearned TA funds using the official last date of attendance, as determined by Seton Hill University’s attendance records. The last date of attendance is used to determine the number of days completed. To remain in compliance with the Department of Defense’s (DoD) policy, Seton Hill University will return any unearned TA funds through 60% of the semester on a prorated basis.
After 60% of the semester has been completed, TA will not be prorated for a return to the applicable military service.
The DoD will be billed after 60% of the semester has passed to reduce the amount of incorrect TA funds being disbursed by the DOD to Seton Hill University. Seton Hill University will only bill for the amount the military student earned during enrollment.

Courses With a Different Duration Than Above
Unearned TA funds will be determined depending on the length of the course and prorated accordingly. Seton Hill University will determine the last date of attendance, and then divide it by the number of days in the term to determine the percentage earned by the military student.
The return of TA funds may result in a balance due on the military student’s account. Any refund of student charges will follow the Refund Policy for Total Withdrawals. If a military student stops attending due to a verifiable military service obligation, Seton Hill University will work with the student to identify solutions that will not result in student debt for the returned TA.
