Checklist For Parents and Family Members
Getting Started
Welcome!
We're so glad you have a family member interested in Seton Hill. We hope this checklist helps you guide them on their journey forward.
- Encourage your student to submit their application through the online Seton Hill Application or the Common Application.
- It's free and there's no obligation to enroll.
- Double-check that high school transcripts and any test scores (if applicable) are sent to the Admissions Office. (Here's how.)
- If your student is applying test-optional, make sure they understand what materials are still required.
- Remind your student to check their personalized Admissions Portal and email regularly for updates.
ADMIT TIP: Encourage your student to keep a list of logins, deadlines and contacts — it’ll make the process much smoother!
- Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as soon as it opens.
- The earlier you submit the FAFSA, the better your student’s chances of qualifying for federal, state and university need-based aid.
- Schedule a personal campus visit, attend an Open House, or join a specialty visit day with your student to get a feel for campus.
- Meet with admissions counselors and faculty to learn more about academic programs. (We can set this up for you!)
- Encourage your student to ask questions about housing, dining, student support and activities they would be interested in.
ADMIT TIP: Make it a family day — it’s a great way to see the place your student might call home for the next four years!
- Encourage your student to log into their personal Admissions Portal regularly to make sure all required materials are received.
- Once we get everything we need, we'll quickly make an admissions decision.
- Once your student’s admissions decision is posted, review it together and celebrate the big step forward!
- If your student is accepted, they’ll also receive information about next steps, like housing, financial aid and deposits.
- Once your student has been accepted and has received a financial aid offer, review it together. Note any deadlines for accepting aid or loans.
- Set up a personalized consultation with a Seton Hill admission counselor to go over your financial aid packet if you have any questions. (You can do that here!)
- Apply for outside scholarships, if needed.
- Submit your student’s enrollment deposit to secure their spot in the incoming class.
- After depositing, your student will gain access to information about:
- Housing and roommate selection.
- Course registration and orientation.
- Student accounts and billing.
- New student events.
ADMIT TIP: Encourage your student to check their new Seton Hill email often after depositing — that’s where all key updates will go!
- Review payment plan options and discuss what works best for your family.
- Make note of upcoming billing dates and payment deadlines.
- If your student plans to work part-time, have them explore on-campus employment opportunities through student jobs or federal work-study.
- Encourage your student to reach out to their Admissions Counselor with any questions — they’re here to help!
- Follow Seton Hill University on social media to stay up to date on Seton Hill news and events.
The college journey is a process — take time to celebrate your student’s hard work and accomplishments! Each step brings them closer to becoming part of the Seton Hill family, and we’re thrilled to welcome you alongside them.
