Music Director & Conductor

Patrick L. Forsyth

Patrick L. Forsyth

Patrick received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in violin performance from the esteemed Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York and Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Patrick began violin studies at the age of three and began performing professionally with the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra at 16, becoming the youngest musician ever to occupy a position in the orchestra. Patrick studied violin with world-class soloists Oleh Krysa and Cyrus Forough (former pupils of the legendary Russian violinist David Oistrakh) and studied conducting under Mark Scatterday, Brad Lubman and Denis Colwell.

Firm in his conviction that it is the responsibility of musicians to carry on the artistic legacies of past masters, Patrick has always been passionate about education and teaches a private studio of violin students in Pittsburgh on top of his duties at Seton Hill. During the school year, he is in demand as a clinician at schools across Western Pennsylvania, and during the summers teaches at Summer Music Academy in Erie, PA.

In addition to his role as Music Director of Sinfonia at Seton Hill University, Patrick serves as Music Director of the Pittsburgh Youth Philharmonic Orchestras and guest conductor of the Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra. Patrick is an active performer with chamber groups, new music ensembles, and orchestras across the United States, including his role as founding member and first violinist of the Red Line String Quartet. He has appeared as a soloist with orchestras in the United States, the United Kingdom, and throughout Europe, including recent sold-out performances in Dublin, Ireland and New York, NY. In addition to his performing and conducting work, Patrick frequently arranges music from various genres, which have been performed extensively throughout North and South America, Asia, Europe and Australia. Patrick performs on a 1948 Italian violin by Gaetano Gadda and conducts with a Mollard “P Series” baton (when he has not misplaced it somewhere). He lives in Pittsburgh with his wife Rebecca and their three cats.
