Art & Design Portfolio Review Information
Undergraduate Majors
For students enrolling in Fall 2026:
Undergraduate visual art majors are not required to submit a portfolio for admission. However, if you would like to be considered for an art scholarship, a portfolio review is required. Scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate excellent artistic ability, as determined by Art Program faculty. Once accepted to the University, you may submit a portfolio for scholarship consideration.
For students enrolling in Fall 2027 and beyond:
All undergraduate visual art majors (except Art History majors) must submit a portfolio as part of the admission process. Portfolios are also used to determine eligibility for Art & Design scholarships, which are awarded based on artistic merit as evaluated by faculty.
Portfolio materials should be high-resolution digital images of your work; JPG format at least 150 dpi. Please include in your portfolio:
- 3 - 5 drawings that indicate an aptitude for observation (work done from still life, landscape, figure drawing, etc.)
- At least 2 additional pieces that indicate aptitude in the use of visual elements: shape, line, texture, value and form.
- A cover letter stating intended major area of study, and a works list that includes title, media, year and any other pertinent information.
- Also include, if appropriate: 3 - 5 examples of painting, photography, graphic design or 3D work.
Early portfolio acceptance day is November 15.
Standard portfolio acceptance day is February 1.
Portfolios will continue to be accepted on a rolling basis and will be reviewed for scholarships as available.
