Not everyone could work full-time as a senior consultant at a global consulting firm and have a side job as an NFL agent. So how does Seton Hill sports management alumnus Christian Carter do it?

“It’s been a beautiful balance,” he says, laughing.

Anyone who remembers Christian as a student who got involved in everything - from athletics (four years as a defensive back for the Griffins), to serving as a student ambassador, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee president, and resident assistant - won’t be surprised to learn he’s succeeding in two fields.

As a senior consultant at international consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton, Christian gets involved in projects that “help companies, people and organizations identify a problem, and use technology to help them solve it. And solve it in such a way that they can move forward on their own.”

Most recently at BAH, Christian has been working in health consulting for the U.S. military. 

“We work to find solutions that support the active-duty military and veterans community, and their families, in getting access to health care,” he says. “Usually this involves a better use of technologies on a broad scale. This is something I feel good doing. It’s work that matters.”

Christian is also approaching his third year as a certified NFL agent. Which means he spends his evenings and weekends advising players, coaches and management on a variety of topics.

“As an agent, you’re both an advisor and a support system. Sometimes you’re also a therapist or a big brother. I’ve been to a lot of baby showers.” Christian chuckles as he says this. “I love it.”

Christian believes his Seton Hill experiences laid the foundation for a multi-level career.

“As an RA you’re basically running a building,” he says. “A building full of college students. Things happen. Sometimes you have to be the mayor. You have to deliver messages that maybe not everyone wants to hear. Sometimes you have to be a psychologist. You have to be good at conflict resolution.”

“As a football player,” he adds, “Well, as a new program we always seemed to be rebuilding. We had to be resilient. And as president of the SAAC, I managed funds and represented the University at conferences.” 

In all of these roles, Christian says, “I was required to do a lot of things and have a lot of responsibility.”

‘Doing a lot of things and having a lot of responsibility’ is also a fair description of Christian’s academic experience as a business major.

The Sports Management Program, Christian says, “held us to a high standard academically. And it wasn’t just the math, the business basics - it was how to build relationships, how to network, how to create and give presentations, situational analysis, how to interact in the ‘unofficial’ corporate environments - the happy hours, the work events. The things that are not easy for a lot of people, but are so important, so beneficial, so impactful to know.”

Christian earned his bachelor’s in sports management at Seton Hill in 2016. He then went on to earn his MBA in marketing and entrepreneurship from the College of William and Mary in 2018, the same year he began with Booz Allen Hamilton. Soon after, he added a part-time job at Monumental Sports and Entertainment, “America’s Leading Sports and Entertainment Family.”  Then came his certification as a sports agent. Christian has become an expert at having ‘lots to do and lots of responsibility,” and he can’t wait to see what’s next.

“If you’re not all in, you’re going to miss things,” he says. “I never want to miss anything.”
