Creative Writing Major Surrounds Herself with Words
Marisa Valotta likes words. And books. A lot. So much so, in fact, that she’s working toward writing a novel some day. In the meantime, this English-creative writing major is honing her (already impressive) writing skills and surrounding herself with the things she loves.
Marisa is the web editor for Eye Contact, Seton Hill’s literary/art magazine. (She has also had writing accepted to the publication.) A member of the English Honors Society Sigma Tau Delta and Seton Hill’s Honors Program, she also serves as an aide at Reeves Memorial Library and a marketing communication intern for Seton Hill’s Marketing Department.
Marisa understands that good writers need to have strong life experiences to call upon. As a member of the Feminist Collective, she’s participated in Greensburg’s Equal Pay Rally for two years, an experience she describes as “always very empowering.” And, to broaden her worldview, she traveled to Italy in the summer of 2017 with a Seton Hill study abroad trip.
“It was my first time out of the country,” she says. “I was nervous at first, but I had so much fun, while also being immersed in a new culture.”
