Cybersecurity Major at Seton Hill Prepares Students to Protect the Future
Newest Major Leads to Careers in Information & Data Security
Seton Hill University is dedicated to preparing students who are “fit for the world in which they will live.” The world of Seton Hill graduates will be an interconnected one, where information will continue to be shared across countries, industries and systems. This interconnectivity will drive growth in everything from financial markets to health care – and it will also provide evolving opportunities for cybercrime.
"Our cybersecurity major will be framed and rooted in a liberal arts environment, where students learn skills that prepare them for the workforce and to become productive and ethical members of society."

Seton Hill’s newest major, cybersecurity, will prepare students to protect digital information from being stolen or compromised. In doing so, it provides an exciting new career opportunity for students with interests in computer science, forensic science, accounting and criminal justice.
“Our cybersecurity major teaches technical concepts through the use of an advanced networking laboratory, where students will receive hands-on real-world experience implementing networking and security concepts,” says Bernadette Fondy, Ph.D., chair of the Division of Natural and Health Sciences.
Students graduating from Seton Hill with a bachelor of science degree in cybersecurity will be prepared for a wide array of jobs, including information security analyst, data security administrator, information security officer and information systems security administrator. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the job outlook for information security analysts will continue to grow much faster than the average for other career fields, and projects an income much higher than the national average. (In 2015, median pay for information security analysts was $90,120/year.)
At Seton Hill, cybersecurity majors have the opportunity to dive deeply into topics like forensic accounting, fraud detection, cybercrime management, criminal justice, database management and computer security networks while being supported by expert faculty and new, state-of-the-art facilities. Seton Hill’s award-winning Career and Professional Development Center will help majors find a cybersecurity-related internship during their time “on the Hill,” and a job in this fast-growing field upon graduation. Seton Hill also offers students the opportunity to earn certification in network and security areas.
Seton Hill is uniquely suited to prepare the new generation of cybersecurity experts. The University’s expertise in using mobile technology – and wireless networks - for teaching and learning has led to Seton Hill being named an Apple Distinguished School four times. Seton Hill’s Mobile Learning at the Hill Program provides each full-time student and faculty member with a MacBook Air laptop and an iPad mini, along with the training and infrastructure to support using mobile technology to create, learn and communicate.
“Our small class sizes allow for personalized attention,” adds Provost Susan Yochum, S.C., Ph.D. “And our cybersecurity major will be framed and rooted in a liberal arts environment, where students learn skills that prepare them for the workforce and to become productive and ethical members of society. These skills include effective communication, critical thinking, quantitative reasoning and a global perspective.”
