In His Own Words: Inspired to Compose
“In 2010, I came to Seton Hill University to earn my B.M. in Music Education as a voice major. Four years later, I left with so much more. Seton Hill’s core music curriculum expanded my knowledge of music exponentially. I was able to grow as a vocalist and instrumentalist through the many ensemble and solo opportunities available to me. I was even able to explore the creation of music through composition lessons, which inspired me to submit a work to a composition competition sponsored by the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association. As a result, I was acknowledged as the recipient of the Collegiate Composition Excellence Award at the 2013 PMEA State In-Service Conference. All of these diverse performance experiences, backed by SHU’s excellent core curriculum prepared me for my current graduate degree program in Jazz Studies. With the excellent faculty, curriculum, and encouragement to advance myself musically, I will be forever grateful that I chose to attend Seton Hill University.”
