About Us

The Westmoreland Symphonic Winds, a concert band in residence at Seton Hill University, is a wind and percussion performance and educational organization. Membership is composed of approximately 70 auditioned musicians, including music degree students from Seton Hill, professional musicians and talented avocational musicians.
Professor of Music Kathleen M. Campbell formed the Westmoreland Symphonic Winds in 1986. Campbell founded the group not only to enhance the ensemble curriculum for Seton Hill music students, but also to provide a quality and challenging musical outlet for community musicians while contributing to Westmoreland County's cultural heritage.
Our Mission
By striving for the highest possible performance standard and actively extending the learning process throughout adult life, the Westmoreland Symphonic Winds' mission is to provide an outstanding example of music education for the community surrounding it.
Our Director
Scott J. Miller is the Visiting Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Instrumental Activities at Seton HIll University and has served as Director of Athletic Bands since 2024. Mr. Miller directs the Griffin Marching Band, Basketball Pep Band, Westmoreland Symphonic Winds, and teaches Conducting, Survey of Music Literature, Marching Band Techniques, and Brass Ensemble. Originally from Youngstown, Ohio, Mr. Miller attended Youngstown State University where he received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education (Instrumental Emphasis, Trumpet) in 2015. Scott received a Graduate Teaching Assistantship at the University of Nevada, Reno to pursue a Master's of Music Degree in Wind Conducting (2021) where he assisted with all aspects of the UNR Band Program. Mr. Miller's previous work experience includes serving as the Director of Bands at David Anderson Jr./Sr. High School (Lisbon, Ohio), as well as Director of Bands at Robert Morris University and West Virginia Wesleyan College. Mr. Miller is also the Executive Director of the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra.
