Neurological Surgery Physician Assistant Says Seton Hill Program Prepared Her to Provide Top-Notch Patient Care

Seton Hill PA Program grad Nicole Gray, MPAS, PA-C works in neurological surgery at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. Nicole graduated in 2019, and recently shared an update on her career progress with Seton Hill.

What do you do as a neurological surgery PA?Nicole Gray

I currently work with UPMC Presbyterian Neurological Surgery. I have been in this department for nearly six years and hold the title of Expert Physician Assistant. I work in Neurotrauma two days per week, and run a Neurosurgery Rapid Access Spine Care Clinic two days per week.

The hours upon hours of lecturing, studying, practicals, etc. taught me not only how to examine, diagnose, and treat my patients - but also how to care for the entire family.

How did the Seton Hill PA Program prepare you for your current work?

Seton Hill laid an amazing foundation for the dedication and work that it would take to be in such a demanding subspecialty as neurological surgery. I was able to hit the ground running with a solid understanding of the human anatomy that I was working with, and with a confidence in my physical examination that new grads typically lack. Seton Hill taught me how to take constructive criticism and improve upon my work with the ultimate goal of providing top-notch patient care.

What was your experience like in the Seton Hill PA Program?

Seton Hill’s PA Program prepared me for the dedication required to be a physician assistant. The hours upon hours of lecturing, studying, practicals, etc. taught me not only how to examine, diagnose, and treat my patients - but also how to care for the entire family. I also learned to respect the entire healthcare team and value what each person brings to the role of caring for a patient in the hospital or clinic setting. It was a very hard few years of school but it brought me to some of the best friends and best memories of my life.
