Business Major/Dance Minor Bridget Joyce Finds Perfect Fit in Seton Hill Communication Program
Bridget Joyce is a Seton Hill student with a LOT going on. She recently took a few seconds out of a busy day to answer some questions about why she chose Seton Hill, and all the ways she’s moving forward.
Why did you decide to further your education at Seton Hill?
Before touring Seton Hill, I thought I wanted to attend a large university. After seeing campus and experiencing a positive meeting with my admission counselor, I was sold.
Why did you choose your specific major/minor combo?
I am majoring in Communication, with a specialization in Integrated Marketing and Public Relations. I have a minor in Dance. At first, I thought I wanted to be a Marketing major. I reviewed the courses and talked with my advisor about my career goals. I decided the Communication program was more tailored to my goals. I chose the Dance minor because it's a passion of mine - I’ve trained in it my whole life. Ultimately, I’d love a career that would include all my different areas of study. For right now, it is important to me to keep my love for that art form alive.
“After touring Seton Hill, I realized I simply felt at home there. The school is built on the four pillars of serving, learning, welcoming and celebrating - that was apparent!”
How is having a business major and a dance minor working out for you?
Overall, having this combination has been incredibly rewarding. Faculty with both the Communication and Dance Programs (Dr. Jen Jones and TaMara Swank) have helped make my dreams a reality. For example: in May of 2024, I was able to Study Away with the Dance Program in Ireland. We explored three cities; Dublin, Galway, and Belfast. Not only did I study a variety of dance genres, but I also did fieldwork as part of the trip that took advantage of my communication and marketing skill set.
Would you mind talking a little bit about the groups you're involved with on campus?
I am in the Honors Program, currently completing my Capstone Project and research. I'm also involved with the Griffin Guides (who provide campus tours). I’m a Student Ambassador, a Peer Career Advisor in the Career and Professional Development Center, and the social media and public relations representative for the Student Dance Organization and the Marketing and Communication Club (MarComm). I’m confident that having these experiences under my belt will make me more marketable to future employers. It’s a way of showcasing my versatility, leadership and time management skills. In addition, each of these organizations have provided friendships, memories, and opportunities in such a caring community focused on my future!
What are your plans for the future?
In the fall of my Senior year, I will be starting my Leadership and Management MBA through Seton Hill’s FastForward Program! Since this is an online program, I have the flexibility to either work during the completion of the program or do a graduate assistantship through the university.
What advice would you give to a high school student who is considering moving on to college?
My advice for any high school student considering going on to further education in any field is to be sure to do your research on the curriculum or offerings at whatever school or major you are considering. All programs are different, and some may offer unique classes that better fit your goals. After finding the right fit in the Communication program at Seton Hill, I don’t believe I could have made a better choice for myself!
