Award-Winning Educator & Expert in Mind, Brain & Learning Vicky M. Krug ‘88 Receives Distinguished Alumni Award

Vicky M. Krug defines her life by the connections she has made. She has a strong appreciation for those in her life who have supported and helped her along her journey, and seeks to make a difference in people’s lives by building relationships. Vicky’s time at Seton Hill opened the door to a world of education she never thought possible.

As a consummate life-long learner since her graduation in 1988, Vicky has earned four master’s degrees and two teaching certifications. They include a Master of Liberal Arts and a Master’s Certificate in Mind, Brain & Learning from Johns Hopkins University; Reading Specialist Certification and Master of Education from the University of Pittsburgh; Elementary Teacher Certification from California University of Pennsylvania; and a Master of Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh.

The focus of her early career was working to help others as a social worker, research specialist, teacher, and program specialist. After suffering a brain injury in a car accident in 2003, Vicky had to master walking, talking, and learning during a rehabilitation that lasted several years. The accident put her on a new path in life. In 2007, Vicky joined the faculty of Westmoreland County Community College, where she teaches College Literacy, Psychology, Critical Thinking and Interpersonal Communication courses. She earned the College’s Full-Time Faculty Teaching Excellence Award in 2020.

Vicky has also received multiple leadership awards and is a contributor to articles and books, as well as being featured in a documentary film, “Grey Matters: Teaching the Way the Brain Learns.” In addition to her academic work, Vicky spends time volunteering in her community on environmental and sustainability projects as well as with the City Theatre Company of Pittsburgh.
