Seton Hill University has been approved for $4 million in funding through Pennsylvania's Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program for renovations to Sullivan Hall, which will update the facility for modern needs while maintaining its unique architectural style.

"Seton Hill University is grateful to receive a grant through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) for renovation to Sullivan Hall, a cherished building on our Greensburg campus," Seton Hill President Mary Finger said. "We especially thank Gov. Tom Wolf and Sen. Kim Ward for their support of this project. The RACP grant will support the renovation of Sullivan Hall to provide updated spaces for Seton Hill's rapidly-growing academic programs as well as a student center while maintaining the iconic architecture of the structure."

President Finger added, "Sullivan Hall - often referred to as the 'castle building' - is beloved by generations of Seton Hill alumni, who appreciate its architectural style and its location in the heart of our campus. By renovating Sullivan - while still maintaining its unique look and features - we will be able to extend the life of this important campus landmark while meeting the needs of today's students."

Sullivan Hall opened as the Student Activities Building in October 1929 with an Alumnae Ball during the presidency of Rev. Daniel Sullivan. It was renamed Sullivan Hall in his honor in 1947. 

Alumni may remember athletic events held in the gymnasium or the bowling alley and swimming pool available for for extracurricular activities for students. Commencement ceremonies were held in Sullivan for a number of years. Many residents from the greater Greensburg community fondly remember taking swimming lessons in the pool in Sullivan. 

Sullivan Hall, which was designed in Norman Chateau style, currently houses a Barnes & Noble Bookstore, the Griffin's Cove cafe, an auxiliary gym, offices and student lounges. Seton Hill is currently working with a design firm on the project, and more information will be available as plans are developed.
