Seton Hill University will host a public lecture by Dr. Younus Mirza, co-author of The Bible and the Qur'an: Biblical Figures in the Islamic Tradition. Mizra’s lecture, “The Sacrifice: The Story of Abraham's/Ibrahim's Sacrifice and Its Relevance Today,” is free and open to the public. It is co-sponsored by the Seton Hill University School of Humanities and CERIS, the Consortium for Educational Resources on Islamic Studies.

The lecture will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in Roome 156 of the The Joanne Woodyard Boyle Health Sciences Center.

Dr. Mizra’s lecture, “The Sacrifice: The Story of Abraham's/Ibrahim's Sacrifice and Its Relevance Today,” will discuss how Abraham’s story remains relevant within interfaith dialogue today; the ways the "Abrahamic" faiths in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam understand this common ancestor of faith; and how we can best represent the theological boundaries among religious groups.

Dr. Younus Y. Mirza is a Visiting Researcher at Georgetown University and Scholar in Residence at Shenandoah University.  He defended his dissertation in Arabic and Islamic Studies from Georgetown University in 2012 and has taught at Millsaps and Allegheny Colleges.  His current research focuses on the relationship between the Bible and the Qur’an and the shared stories between them. He is a co-author of the book The Bible and the Qur’an: Biblical Figures in the Islamic Tradition and has published in various journals such as the Journal of the American Academy of Religion (JAAR), the Journal of Qur’anic Studies (JQS) and Islam Christian-Muslim Relations. He teaches courses on the Qur’an, Islamic Movements, Biblical and Qur’anic Prophets, and Islam and Other Religions.
