Seton Hill Alumni Host Day of Reflection Retreat on Nov. 12

What: The Seton Hill University Alumni Advisory Council is hosting the 2016 Day of Reflection program “Encountering Mercy: In Art, Prayer, Self and The World,” a retreat featuring guest speakers Msgr. Lawrence R. Kiniry and Helene E. Paharik. The event, which is open to the public, will feature lectures as well as a tour of the Diocesan Heritage Center and a Taize Service.
When: Saturday, November 12, 2016 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Where: The morning session from 9 to 11:15 a.m. takes place at the Bishop William G. Connare Center, 2900 Seminary Drive, Greensburg, Pa. The afternoon session from noon to 4:30 p.m. takes place at Caritas Christi, 129 DePaul Center Road, Greensburg, Pa.
Who: Msgr. Lawrence R. Kiniry, a retired priest of the Diocese of Greensburg, has been a priest for 51 years. He was ordained to the priesthood by Greensburg Bishop William G. Connare May 15, 1965, at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral. He has served in several parishes in the diocese with pastorates at St. James Parish, New Alexandria, St. James the Greater Parish, Apollo, and Our Lady of Grace Parish, Greensburg. His service at the diocesan level included director of the evangelization steering committee from 1979 to 1988. Msgr. Kiniry was named chaplain to his holiness with the title monsignor in 2005. He continues to serve in weekend ministry and as moderator of the annual Retreat for People with Disabilities and Life-Challenging Illnesses.
Helene E. Paharik, a graduate of the Seton Hill class of 1987 with a B.A. in theology, most recently served as Associate General Secretary for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh. Previously she was the Director of the Department for Human Dignity for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh. Before that time, Helene served as the Director of Development for the Beit Benedict Peace Academy, Dormition Abbey Director of Ministry Development, Mount Saint Peter Parish; and Pastoral Associate, Blessed Sacrament Cathedral. She is a Seton Hill University Distinguished Alumna Award recipient.
Registration: The Fourth Annual Seton Hill University Alumni Advisory Council 2016 Day of Reflection “Encountering Mercy: In Art, Prayer, Self and The World” is open to the public at a cost of $30 per person or $55 for two participants. Those interested in attending may register online or call 724-830-1005. As a community service initiative, those in attendance are asked to donate a non-perishable food item to The Sisters of Charity Food Drive, supporting Rendu Services, which works with and for the underserved people of Fayette County.
