Seton Hill University’s Harlan Gallery will host “City Sourcing,” a curated exhibit featuring the varied works of eight artists using the city as their source material, from March 7 to April 11 at the Seton Hill Arts Center, 205 W. Otterman St., Greensburg. A curator’s talk will be held on March 11 from 3:30 to 4 p.m. with an opening reception following that day from 4 to 7 p.m. The talk, exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.

“City Sourcing,” which is curated by independent curator Vicky A. Clark of Pittsburgh, Pa., features works by artists Boris Bally, Kim Beck, Seth Clark, Brett Day, Mark Franchino, Dana Ingham, Ramon Riley and Kara Skylling.

Cities evoke an energy caused by the confinement of a mass population confined to a relatively small area. In the hustle and bustle, inhabitants miss many details as they pass by in their daily routines. The artists in “City Sourcing” take the time to notice and to use the city as source material in a variety of ways. Their work is not tied to a taxonomy or a system, though structure figures prominently in much of the work; it is not a recording of specific places nor city plans. It is a thread, one aspect, of their work that ties inherently different work together as we come to think about various interpretations and experiences of any city.
