What: Four soloists with ties to Seton Hill University will perform during the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra’s 45th Anniversary Season Opening Night Concert.

Dr. Mark A. Boyle, Tenor, who is the current Director of Choral Activities and Assistant Professor of Music at Seton Hill University. Prior to this appointment, he served on the faculty of Millersville University, where he founded the Marauder Men’s Glee Club, conducted all the curricular choral ensembles, and taught voice and conducting. While completing his DMA in Conducting at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, Boyle served on the faculty, conducting the Rutgers University Choir, a historic ensemble. He is active as a tenor soloist, recently singing Ahab and Obadiah in the Bethlehem Bach Choir's performance of Mendelssohn's Elijah; Cameron Pampus, Bass, who is currently studying for his bachelor’s degree in Music Education with vocal emphasis at Seton Hill University. He is a student of Dr. Curt Scheib. Cameron is a choral scholar and the bass soloist at the First Presbyterian Church of Greensburg. Besides his work as a singer, Cameron currently gives guitar, vocal, and piano lessons. He is the guitarist in a newly formed trio “Outside the Box”, an acoustic group that plays a wide variety of musical genres. He has most recently been appointed as the Assistant Conductor of the Westmoreland Choral Society, under the direction of Thomas Octave; Laurie Fox-Jones, Mezzo Soprano, who is Coordinator and Associate Professor of Seton Hill University’s Music Therapy Program. In addition, she maintains a private practice in music therapy, utilizing vocal methods in working primarily with adults in crisis. Jones is currently pursuing her PhD in Music Therapy from Temple University and has an interest in the use of Dalcroze Eurhythmics for therapeutic purposes. For the past 10 years, Ms. Jones has served as an adjunct worship leader for Greensburg Alliance Church and has performed as a vocalist and keyboard player in a variety of bands in the larger Pittsburgh region; and Sarah Noone, Mezzo, who is a graduate of Seton Hill University, where she received her degree in Vocal Performance and a certificate in Sacred Music. She is entering her seventh year as a choral scholar and soloist at First Presbyterian Church in Greensburg, and she has been a member of the Westmoreland Choral Society for six seasons. Sarah has performed in many productions with local theaters, including Seton Hill, Apple Hill Playhouse, and The Theatre Factory. In 2009 she was the Hair & Makeup Design intern with the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, and she has since been a Wig/Hair Designer, Supervisor, and Assistant Music Director for several recent productions at Seton Hill. In 2010, she received a scholarship to study Irish Traditional Music in Belfast, Northern Ireland for one semester, during which time she performed J.S. Bach's St. John Passion with the Queen's University Chamber Choir. She also sings locally with her band, Outside The Box.


Background: The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra’s first concert of the season features Bach’s Magnificat performed by the WSO and the new 40-member Westmoreland Symphony Chamber Singers under the direction of Marc Tourre. The concert opens with Handel’s Royal Fireworks Music and also features Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin. Artistic Director Daniel Meyer will conduct the evening’s performance.


A Concert Preview in the Palace Theatre at 6:30 p.m. is open to all ticket holders.
