Seton Hill University's Theatre and Dance Program will present “Dance Spectrum” May 3-5, 2013 at the Seton Hill University Performing Arts Center, William Granger Ryan Theatre. “Dance Spectrum” presents a variety of choreographic styles, from ballet to modern to Broadway and features solo, duet and ensemble numbers. Pieces include: Tristan and Isolde, based on the original Celtic legend of two doomed lovers; Inseparable, which explores the meaning of the word; Long Day Out, featuring three friends who have spent the day out having fun and are at a bus stop waiting to go home; I am Strong, developed in conjunction with representatives from the American Cancer Society, student dancers and choreographer, TaMara Swank; In a Glade, a solo performance to a Ukrainian folk song; and Storm; Uncaged, Amore; Day of Sun; Unity and Elements, which were created by guest choreographer Kenneth Nickel.

“Dance Spectrum” is choreographed by TaMara Swank, assistant professor, dance, and Stefan Zubal, assistant professor, dance. They are joined by guest choreographer Kenneth Nickel, a Pittsburgh native, who has been a principal dancer with the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Ballet West and the Dallas Ballet Company.

Nickel has worked as artistic director of Ballet Orlando as well as artistic director of Performing Arts at LaRoche College, where he implemented a six-week intensive professional summer dance program as well as a summer dance festival. Nickel has also worked at California University of Pennsylvania and Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School in Midland, Pa., where he created and developed an Associate’s Degree in Dance Education in conjunction with the Community College of Beaver County.


Seton Hill University technical staff for the production includes Ken Clothier, assistant professor, theatre, lighting designer and sound designer; Joe Domencic, adjunct faculty, theatre, pianist; Vincent Lobello, technical director; Susan O’Neill, instructor, theatre, costume designer, and Stefan Zubal, assistant professor, dance, lighting designer.
