Hogan Scores Twice as Griffins Fall in OT in Season Finale
The Griffin field hockey team closed out its 2012 season on Sunday against Limestone College at Spalding High School near Baltimore, Maryland. SHU held a 3-2 lead late in the contest but gave up a late goal to tie the score and then gave up a goal 2:28 into the first overtime period, dropping a 4-3 decision to Limestone. With the loss the Griffins end the 2012 season with a 7-11 record. Seton Hill got on the scoreboard first, about ten minutes into the contest, when Janelle Hofer found Michelle Hogan after a penalty corner to give the Griffins the 1-0 lead. Limestone tied the score at one with a goal in the 23rd minute and the game entered the halftime break tied at one. Lauren Mariano gave the Griffins a 2-1 lead just 3 minutes into the second half. Limestone tied the score at two about five minutes later. Hogan then gave the Griffins a 3-2 lead with a goal off of a penalty stroke with just over five minutes in regulation. Less than three minutes later, Limestone tied the score at three to force overtime. Limestone won the game with a goal 2:28 into the overtime period when they found a rebound and put it in the back of the net. Autumn Reid made 6 saves in net and suffered the loss. Michelle Hogan scored twice in her final collegiate contest.
