GREENSBURG, PA—The reopening of the Seton Hill College century-old Administration Building will be held on Friday, June 8, 2001. The celebration includes tours of the Building followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony featuring First Lady of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and graduate of Seton Hill College, Michele Ridge. The evening will culminate with the presentation of the Elizabeth Seton Medal to Corinne “Lindy” Claiborne Boggs, the first woman United States Ambassador to the Vatican.
Restorations and renovations to the College’s Administration Building were made possible through funds raised by the Achieving the Dream: Endowment and Capital Campaign. With gifts and pledges secured totaling more than $26 million, Seton Hill College has surpassed its $21.5 million Campaign fund-raising goal two years ahead of schedule.
The Campaign raised almost $7 million for the Administration Building project from numerous donors including leadership support from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill, foundations, corporations, alumnae and friends. The Sisters of Charity led the Campaign with a
$1 million challenge grant that inspired leadership support for the Administration Building project from local foundations, corporations and individuals including the Katherine Mabis McKenna Foundation, the Richard King Mellon Foundation, the Kennametal Foundation, General Carbide and the family of Premo J. Pappafava, Allegheny Power, the Robertshaw Foundation and the Snee-Reinhardt Charitable Foundation.
Constructed by the Sisters of Charity, the Administration Building is the heart of the campus and is a rich symbol of Seton Hill’s long and distinguished heritage. The renovated building contains 11 smart classrooms and up-to-date technologies including Internet and satellite hook ups. In addition to classroom space and student support areas, the building houses the College’s two national and international centers, the National Education Center for Women in Business and the National Catholic Center for Holocaust Education. The Building will serve Seton Hill’s 1,350 students in climate controlled, high technology space well into the future.
The invitation-only grand reopening of the Administration Building will take place on Friday, June 8, 2001. The program for the evening features tours of the Building beginning at 5:00 p.m. A receiving line for honored guests will take place on the second floor of the Building at 6:00 p.m. The ribbon cutting ceremony will occur at 6:30 p.m. also on the second floor. Ambassador Boggs will receive the Elizabeth Seton Medal as part of the formal program that begins at 8:00 p.m.
