GREENSBURG, PA- The Seton Hill College Child Development Center will celebrate its 50th anniversary on May 19th and 20th, 2001. Since 1951, the Child Development Center has provided an exceptional learning atmosphere for preschoolers and kindergartners. Anniversary celebrations for Saturday, May 19th include the Family Fun Fair 11:00 a.m- 3:00 p.m. that will feature games, prizes, food and raffles. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Celebration plans for Sunday, May 20th include an Adult Reception 7:00 p.m.- 10:00 p.m. which will include basket raffles and a silent auction. All celebration activities will be held at Seton Hill College. The CDC is one of only four centers in Westmoreland County accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), an organization that establishes guidelines for excellence in Early Childhood Programs. Membership in NAEYC does not automatically accredit a program. The accreditation process is voluntary. Accredited programs must meet and maintain stringent criteria in the areas of health and safety, staff and administration, curriculum, evaluation, and environment. The Center is devoted to enhancing the total development of the child. The first consideration of the program is to help children develop self-confidence and self-esteem. They are encouraged to explore, express feelings, engage in constructive play, and create many unique projects. Children develop skills, form ideas, think for themselves, and make choices while interacting and working in small groups, large groups, or independently. The curriculum is designed to meet individual developmental needs in critical areas of growth – cognitive, social, emotional and physical. Because children are the first priority of the school, great efforts go into making sure that these early school experiences are enjoyable, challenging, and enriching for every child.
