Algirdas Matonis is a Lithuanian born euphonium player. He currently serves as a Principal Euphonium at the River City Brass Band in Pittsburgh and is traveling internationally as a soloist, chamber musician and a clinician.
Algirdas performed as a guest artist with a variety of major amateur and professional bands including Grimethorpe Colliery Band and Lithuanian “President’s Own” Military Band. He has been a featured performer at the ITEC 2012, 2014 and 2019. In 2014 Algirdas won the ‘Fodens Solo Competition’ in UK which led to his appointment at the River City Brass as well as full scholarship to do masters’ degree at the Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Algirdas received his undergraduate degree in 2014 at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester under the tutelage of Steven Mead and David Thornton. In 2017 he finished his postgraduate degree at the Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh under the guidance Lance
LaDuke.
Algirdas is a sponsored artist with Sterling Musical Instruments, Parker Mouthpieces and DF Music Inc. He is currently dedicated to his role as the section leader at the River City Brass, teacher at the River City Youth School, traveling internationally as a low brass clinician and growing presence of brass music through social media and his website www.matonizz.com.
